Is Winter Over?

The past couple of weeks have been pretty warm after a very cold and snowy start to the month of February. The high fire danger will continue to remain extremely high until we get some sort of beneficial precipitation. However, this is not unusual to the Oklahoma, January and February are in fact our driest months of the year. So what does that mean for winter weather?

It is not uncommon for Oklahoma to get significant snow events in the month of March, so putting the coats back in the closet for the season may be a bad idea. The last day of February and the first couple of days of March look extremely cold and could have some accumulating snowfall.

Towards the end of March into April is when we change seasons, where we welcome our tornado season. Oklahoma sees its most tornados in the months April, May and early June and then there's another peak in tornadoes in September.

Right now we need to take it one step at a time and focus at what is approaching us in the near future. This weekend looks great with temperatures in the 60's and 70's but next week winter returns with highs in the 30's and 40's and by weeks end snowfall is possible.
